What to Expect
New Client Intake
We strive to be an environmentally friendly business. This is why we don’t give clients paper intake forms to fill out. We keep all of our client records on a secure private online system.
If you have any medical concerns or allergies, please notify your therapist verbally and she or he will design a safe treatment according to your needs. If you have high blood pressure, a lot of fluid-moving strokes like effleurage (rubbing up and down the skin) might not be good for you. Your therapist may use more gentle touch, compression, and acupressure if you have high blood pressure. Also let your therapist know if you have any injuries, recent surgeries, or illness. If you are currently sick with a fever or cold, please stay home until you feel better.
Before the session starts, tell your therapist if you’re seeking a full body treatment or more focus on certain areas. Let her or him know if you’ve had any recent injuries or areas that should be avoided. During the session, speak up if you feel the pressure is too light, too deep, or not in the right spot. You’re welcome to tell your therapist to spend more time in one spot, as well.
All services are performed on a cushioned table with oil, lotion, or Shea butter. The table has clean sheets changed after every appointment. You may undress completely for the session or keep some of your clothes or underwear on – it is your choice. For women it is easier to rub your whole back and shoulders if you take your bra off.
Your therapist will leave the room so you can get ready in private and lay down on the table underneath a sheet or pillow case. Some people prefer a full sheet and blanket covering, while others opt for a pillow case or towel for less coverage. Let your practitioner know what works best for you. Draping is required by New York State Law. The therapist will never touch you under the drape or clothes.
It is the client’s responsibility to communicate with his or her therapist about pressure and comfort level during the session. Please speak up if something doesn’t feel right to you. Each room comes with a space heater which can be turned up if you get cold.
If you are using a gift certificate or pre-paid voucher, please present it to your massage therapist before starting the session. We accept cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.
Possible Side Effects
This is your opportunity to safely and effectively relieve stress and ease muscular pain, however, some mild side effects may occur within one or two days after a session. Not everyone experiences side effects, but the most common are fatigue and slight soreness especially if deep tissue knots were released.
Another normal side effect you might experience is release of emotion. You will eventually feel lighter after your body naturally processes the emotions that are stored in your tissues.
We recommend drinking fluids, stretching gently, and getting plenty of rest to reap the most benefits from your time with us.
Many of our clients have tried chiropractors, physical therapists, psychotherapists, medication, surgery, and more to heal their physical and emotional ailments. Most people report that our therapeutic bodywork services are complimentary to these efforts. Some people find that after visiting us on a regular basis they can reduce or eliminate other forms of treatment. We use our hands to promote good health by naturally relaxing the mind and body. We look forward to assisting you in reducing stress and living life to the fullest.
